Nothing pairs better with the changing leaves than a tall mug of marzen or a dry pumpkin cider. Add some live entertainment, games and local bites, and you’ve got yourself an Oktoberfest. Here’s an assortment of Oktoberfests and other fall celebrations headed our way.

Oktoberfest at New District Brewing Company

When: Sept. 20, 6 p.m.

Where: New District Brewing Company, 2709 S. Oakland St., Arlington (Shirlington)

Acoustic trio The Okays performs at this unveiling of New District’s Oktoberfest brews. Dogs are welcome (the brewery is near a dog park, after all), provided you adhere to their dog code of conduct. And you’re encouraged to bring your own food to help soak up the suds. Free admission.

Rocklands and Port City Oktoberfest

When: Sept. 21, Noon-6 p.m.

Where: Rocklands Barbeque and Grilling Company, 3471 Washington Blvd., Arlington (Clarendon)

Local barbecue pro Rocklands is teaming up with local ale pro Port City Brewing for an afternoon of food, drink and … stein-hoisting competitions? (As in, see how high you can raise your hefeweizen?) Apparently, prizes are involved. Free admission.

Oktoberfest Birthday Bash

When: Sept. 21, Noon-7 p.m.

Where: Caboose Commons, 2918 Eskridge Road, Fairfax (Mosaic District)

Caboose Commons goes from infant to toddler at this Oktoberfest-infused 1st birthday celebration, extending out the doors of their warehouse-like space. Expect a parking lot filled with revelers nibbling on German cuisine, live tunes, seasonal drinks, family fun and a market of local wares. Free admission.

Oktoberfest Kickoff at Tysons Biergarten

When: Sept. 21, 3 p.m.-7 p.m.

Where: Tysons Biergarten, 8346 Leesburg Pike

Tysons Biergarten launches its Oktoberfest with a selection of festival beers and a ceremonial “tapping of the keg” imported from Germany just for this occasion. Tickets $10 online/$20 at the door.

Oktoberfest at the Beer Garden

When: Sept. 27-29

Where: Westover Market Beer Garden, 5863 Washington Blvd., Arlington

Oktoberfest runs all weekend long at this 10-year-old beer garden, including live music on Friday and Saturday nights and German fare. Patrons are asked to bring their own stein to take advantage of specials on several Oktoberfest brews, and costumes are welcome. Free admission.
